ICPE Online Event: 16th Annual Meeting & Legislative Outlook
This year, we’re doing things a little differently. Join us virtually on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. ET/ 6:00 p.m. CT for ICPE’s Annual All-Member Meeting.
Historically, our annual meeting has been held in person in August at Washington Township Schools on the north side of Indianapolis. But we’ve heard from many of our members—especially parents—that August is already an incredibly busy month and that adding another activity can be difficult. We also recognize that holding our meeting in the Indianapolis metro area has made it challenging for many of our members and supporters across Indiana to attend.
Given the tremendous statewide participation and enthusiasm we’ve seen for ICPE’s virtual events over the past year, we’re excited to bring our 2026 Annual All-Member Meeting online. We hope this new format will make it easier for public education supporters from every corner of Indiana to join us!
We have an important and informative program planned for the evening:
Cathy Fuentes-Rohwer will serve as our MC, helping guide us through an evening focused on the issues, research, and advocacy shaping the future of Indiana public education.
Nigel Long will present a summary of a powerful presentation of “Elected School Board, But No Power: The Takeover of the Indianapolis School Board.” The full version will be presented down in Houston at the Network for Public Education annual meeting on September 26. The presentation examines the dramatic change in public education governance in Indianapolis and the broader questions surrounding local control, elected school boards, and public accountability.
Keri Miksza will share ICPE’s Legislative Report Card and Candidate Pledge efforts. These important tools help Hoosier voters better understand where candidates and elected officials stand—and how lawmakers have voted—on key issues affecting Indiana’s public schools.
Jim May will discuss ICPE’s School Funding Survey, sharing insights from superintendents around Indiana and what their responses tell us about the challenges facing public school districts.
Joel Hand, ICPE’s General Counsel and lobbyist, will provide a look ahead at the upcoming legislative session. Joel will offer his perspective on what public education advocates should be watching and the issues likely to shape education policy at the Statehouse.
As always, our annual meeting is an opportunity for ICPE members, supporters, and anyone who cares about the future of Indiana’s public schools to come together, learn, and prepare for the work ahead.
