ICPE Online Event: The Referendum Wave Is Coming – What Communities Need To Know

by | Apr 15, 2026 | #VotePublicEd, Get Involved, Referendums, Rural Schools, School Funding, Suburban Schools, Urban Schools

It has been stated that an estimated 100 or more school districts will have a referendum on the ballot this fall—a stunning number.

As communities fight to provide students with the schools they need and deserve, it begs the question: If it is the state’s constitutional obligation to fund public schools, why must we vote to tax ourselves on top of the taxes we already pay? Do you know what best practices are involved when running a referendum campaign? Are you aware of some of the legal dos and don’ts?

Join us as experts share important general information at this online event about referendum campaigns. Hear from parents involved in a successful campaign and what that meant for their community. Hear also from a parent whose school system is facing cuts after a failed referendum. There are lessons to be learned and advice to be gained from our excellent panelists.
