Dear Public Education Advocates and Members of ICPE,

Monday’s ICPE Virtual Statehouse Day was a resounding success! We had over 50 people registered, most of whom used their lunch hours to fight to keep the “public” in public schools! Thank you to those who came, and thanks to those who used our resources to speak to their state senators about this antidemocratic bill, HB1423.

The collective action we are making at these events amplifies our voices. The feedback has been very positive. From one participant : “I completed 28 calls—everyone on the list, as well as my senator… I stayed with it this long because of the group support!! Thanks. I am following up with my friend group.”

While we have been sounding the alarm about this bill for weeks, we must continue to keep the pressure on. HB1423 strips power from an elected school board (Indianapolis Public Schools) and transfers it to a brand-new entity– a corporation governed by an all-appointed board. If this can happen in Indianapolis, it can happen anywhere in Indiana.

Across Indiana, we have the power to speak up for our public schools. We are what makes public education public. Join us this Sunday, Feb 22. Bring others and share with others. Together, we can make a difference.
